Another year is coming to an end. 2018 has been an up and down year. It’s the year I turned 40 which at that time was such a big thing but looking back now, it was a non event and I feel no different to 39.

Like most years, some events stand out for me. From a professional level, CSS Grid has changed the game for me and has made building sites quite interesting and a lot of fun so picking that up has been a game changer for me. Along with that I managed to flex some design muscle with the .Net design competition which I throughly enjoyed once I got my act together. I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings with me and working more with CSS Grid.

I also started to do a bit of teaching. Nothing much but it gave me a real purpose. I take for granted the skills I’ve learnt over the years but I’ve never had to explain it before so maybe 2019 will bring more of that in some capacity.

From a personal level, seeing my kids growing up and turning into the people I hoped is what drives me. I’ve had such a laugh this year with them. I’m so very proud of them both. For all my faults (I have many apparently), I made some decent humans.

And it’s not just events that stand out for me this year. Some people in my life whether it be in the real world or the digital have helped 2018 along and been a real inspiration.

Andy and his work with his Art Direction book has created this spark for me. It sounds corny but it’s given me a focus and a desire to succeed in what I love, so Andy thank you for doing what you do.

Thanks to Sush and Jamie for listening and being great sound boards, it’s invaluable. 2019 hopefully will be the year we meet. Zac for trying to get me out every lunch time in Manchester and me letting him down. He deserves better despite him being a recruiter.

Paul for putting up with me on most train journeys.

And finally Jake. He’s stuck by me for 5 years and has always believed in me. Thanks big head

2019 hopefully will be a good year. I can’t wait to be inspired. Have a nice Christmas.
